IB® Learning Journey

The IB® is designed as a Continuum — but it is not always experienced as one.

Understanding the IB® as a Continuum is often more complex than understanding its individual programmes. While the PYP, MYP and DP are designed as a coherent progression, they are at times experienced as disconnected phases. This resource makes that progression explicit by mapping what remains consistent, what evolves, and what becomes more demanding across the three programmes. Its purpose is to support alignment in teaching and learning, strengthen transitions, and enable students to engage more consciously and confidently with their learning journey.

In some school contexts, teachers work within a specific programme and may not always have a full overview of the entire IB® Continuum. These materials are designed to support that broader perspective, offering a shared framework for understanding progression across PYP, MYP and DP. Two complementary versions are available — one for teaching staff and one for students — both intended to make learning more visible, coherent and purposeful.
