The 2020 framework organises the IB® expectations into four overarching categories, each addressing a critical dimension of school life:

- Environment: Building the structural leadership and resource conditions that sustain high-quality learning
- Culture: Fostering international-mindedness, inclusive policies and a collaborative school community

Within these four categories sit 9 Standards, each broken down into Practices, Requirements and programme-specific Specifications for PYP, MYP and DP. This layered structure enables schools to assess their readiness at every level, from broad strategic direction to specific classroom implementation.
